God desires to hear you pray to Him
It’s sometimes easy to forget that God is always around us and willing to listen to us at any given time, simply due to the fact that we don’t physically see him like we see our friends and family around us. This is why it’s important to not forget what the Bible says about prayer.
God wants us to ask for things. He wants us to “test” him so that we can be encouraged by his impact on our lives and see our prayers getting answered.
There are two particular scriptures in Matthew where it’s made clear that God wants us to pray and ask for His assistance. He also makes it clear that not only should we pray to Him, but we must also have faith and believe that He will come through.
Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
Now of course it can be easy to get discouraged and believe that God won’t answer a specific prayer that you’ve been asking for over a long period of time. But as Christians we have to trust that in time, when it’s the right time, the Lord will give us what we desire as long as it is pleasing and a part of His will for our lives.
On the flip side, we should be content if a particular prayer doesn’t get answered because ultimately we have to trust and have faith that God is looking out for what’s best for us and will always give us what we need.
Now there are some prayers where we need to put in some of the work. This is where faith and deeds come into play.
James 2:14-26
14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
A great example of faith and deeds is if someone is looking to get a particular job. If that person isn’t qualified for the job then they will then need to put in the work needed to make sure they have the proper credentials. That might mean they will need to acquire a college degree or attend a few classes for a certification.
At the end of the day we have to trust that God will lead us in the right direction and make sure we are always communicating with Him. We have to trust the power of prayer and His will in our lives.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
